ESG

Environmental, Social and Governance. How we put planet and people first wherever we can.

JBL is a family run business, and we've always employed staff local to our client base and operations, reducing commutes and supporting families in our community. One of our founding principles is reduction or elimination of waste.

From day 1 we've taken it upon ourselvs to return to site as much material as possible that our supply chain generates. Typical waste generators are packaging and disposal furniture. Any items not suitable for repair and onward donation are taken apart and materials seperated out inline with WEEE and POPs regulations for on-site recycling collection of card, paper, metal, plastics and occassionally glass. On average we save, sort and send away for recycling 30 tonnes of materials per annum from our Oxford warehouse.

A key area we're able to help community and environment is the retention and donation of disposal products otherwise destined for landfill or recycling. This includes returned or surplus work supplies, paper products and surplus furniture earmarked for disposal during refit projects. On average we save around 6 tonnes per annum of goods from landfill or incineration by saving, storing and donating good, safe and serviceable items.

Today more than ever we're focused on working closely with clients on how we can reduce or eliminate waste, and the environmental impact of goods, and how they are delivered or installations.

Good causes, local first

We're often in a position to save items from disposal during office refit work. Before we manage a site clearnace we encourage our clients to first reach out to local community good causes and social enterprises who could benefit from any donated items. This is always the best way to reduce environmental impact of goods, by transporting a surplus item to it's new home, directly from A to B. Due to often limited timeframes office refit projects demand, not all surplus inventory is always claimed intime. In these cases, we return surplus items to our warehouse for assesment and storage, for future donation rather than disposal.

We make any older items safe for their next life, including refurbishment or repair, which we then store ready for thier next home. The virtious circle of saving items from landflill for donation saves Earth's resources and financial benefits charities and good causes while reducing Co2 output by lowering consumption of goods and transport movements.

As well as product we also donate our time and services, offering consultancy, CAD planning and independent advice on office moves, relocations and furniture procurment pro bono for good causes. Recent success stories include donations to Oxfordshire Mind, local Primary schools, Emmaus Oxford and Young Minds, Make Space Oxford.

We do not profit financially from repurposing, storing or donating items. If any of our clients need help with removals or installations we sometimes ask for a contribution towards our labour and transport costs. We thank all our clients who have donated items we then store free of charge until a good home becomes available. Having a donation inventory in storage allows the benefactor to choose the right items for a given project. Contact us if you are a local Oxfordshire charity, social enterprise or good cause and have a need for work supplies or furniture donations.
