Custom Sit Stand desk

We had the pleasure of spending time with New York born folk music legend Dr. Peggy Seeger after her team reached out to find a comfortable ergonomic chair and desk to improve Peggy's work set-up while planning her busy upcoming 90th Birthday tour schedule. Peggy also loves spending time at her desk replying to fans correspondence and planning gigs, but wanted more comfort and was curious to try standing at her computer.

In our showroom, Peggy quickly found an ergonomic chair that worked for her, which we set-up for Peggy and delivered the next day.
Peggy had educated herself on sit stand health benefits and asked us to overcome a couple of challenges. The desk had to fit a specific space to fit around existing furniture, and accommodate signficant cable management needs.

Sensing Peggy isn't the corporate type, we wanted to create something for Peggy that felt part of her space, as if it had always been there, but gave her the benefits she wanted. Peggy loves the desk and chair, and we couldn't be happier. Good luck Peggy for your 2025 Farewell tour.

Brief

Modern sit stand technology, without looking new and a lightweight comfortable chair with excellent support and movement around the desk when seated, easily moved aside when standing. We wanted a desk hybrid of old and new, something Peggy would love looking at and benefit from using.

Using state of the art electric dual motor frame with collision detection and digital control we created a hybrid old/new sit stand desk to sit alongside some of Peggy's lovely pieces of existing furniture, including a lovely haberdashery cabinet storing her mics and stage accessories. We went through our furniture archive and found a perfect fit 1970s vintage veneer desk we'd stored for many years. The woodwork was in great condition for the age with enough character to blend into the room. The desk top and modesty panel we repurposed onto a new electric desk frame and mechanicals, and tucked the digital control just far enough under the top so as not to be too visible.

We then custom built wood slat side panel so when the desk is fully raised, the modern mechanicals and wires remain out of sight, fabricating a matching veneer top overhang for a neat cable management off the back of the desk.

What Peggy had to say...

It's your scene, do what you do
